Jesus is the Son of God

Jesus Christ was no mere man.   He was given the name Immanuel, which means “God with us” in Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23.

Jesus is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.   The Trinity includes God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.   Jesus is God the Son, or the Son of God.   All three of these are Deity, and these three are one.  “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three agree in one.”  1 John 5:7   (Jesus is also referred to as the Word; see John 1:1-3, 14).

God does indeed have a Son, as shown in these Old Testament Scriptures:

I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Psalm 2:7

23   And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24   Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25   He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Daniel 3:23-25

Who is God’s Son?

Proverbs 30:4:

  • Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? [God]
  • who hath gathered the wind in his fists? [God]
  • who hath bound the waters in a garment? [God]
  • who hath established all the ends of the earth? [God]
  • what is his name, [God]
  • and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

Can you answer that last question?   What is God’s Son’s name?

Jesus Himself stated that He was one with God the Father.  “I and my Father are one.”  John 10:30

Here are some Messianic prophecies that Jesus Christ fulfilled.   (He fulfilled about 300 prophecies).

Why did the Son of God bother to come down to earth in the first place?   Why did He give up His heavenly glory to dwell among mortal men?

16   For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17   For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:16,17

God sent His only begotten Son to save you from your sins.   You could not get rid of them yourself, so He died to take your punishment for your sins.   He died to take away your sins.
