For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1 Timothy 2:5
As Christians, we believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. In this unique situation, “the man Christ Jesus” is the ONLY one who can serve as a mediator between God and man. No human can pretend to stand in the gap between God and man. Only Jesus Christ, who is both God and man, can fulfill this role.
At Christmas, we celebrate the incarnation and birth of Jesus Christ. In Christ, God was made manifest in the flesh:
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16.
Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, became a human, and was born into this world of a human mother. In Christ, the Creator became part of His creation.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6.
Looking at His incarnation and birth, we must understand the reason for His first advent: His ministry and death.
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:19
3. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:3-4
Everyone loves the baby Jesus; He is gentle and non-threatening. However, most reject His Gospel message. They reject Him as the only mediator between God and man, and as the only way to eternal life. God’s free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ is, to them, intolerant and they insist on finding their own way to God. Neither will they enjoy His second coming, when He returns with power and authority and judgment. However, for those of us who trust in and obey Him now, He will return as “Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” He will liberate the world from the grasp of Satan and his agents, purge it from all iniquity, and rule and reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
